What Is Riba (Interest)?

Riba is an Islamic term commonly associated with interest in financial transactions. Islam prohibits Riba and teaches Muslims to manage their wealth in accordance with Islamic principles.

What Types of Interest Can You Donate?

Depending on the circumstances and BUKT's donation policy, interest may include:
  • •Bank account interest: Interest credited to current or savings accounts.
  • •Cash ISA interest: Interest received through cash savings arrangements.
  • •Other savings products: Interest credited through eligible interest-bearing products.
  • •Interest received from lending: Payments received under interest-bearing lending agreements.
Interest paid on mortgages, loans, overdrafts or credit cards is a different matter from interest received. If you need guidance about these payments, consult a qualified Islamic scholar.
