SUDAN EMERGENCY APPEAL
The World's Worst Humanitarian Crisis in Modern History
Sudan, Africa's third largest country, now finds itself in catastrophic turmoil. Since April 2023, when the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted into open warfare, lives and infrastructure have been decimated.
1. Conflict, Massacre & Collapse
- More than 30.4 million people, over half the country's population, now require urgent humanitarian assistance in 2025-26.
- Famine conditions have been officially declared in multiple regions, including Darfur and parts of South Kordofan.
- The healthcare system has collapsed under attack: hundreds of medical facilities are non functional. Disease outbreaks are surging.
2. Children and Families Caught in the Crossfire
- Over 12.8 million people are forcibly displaced, internally and across borders, with millions more at risk.
- More than 15 million children face violence, malnutrition, displacement and disease in the conflict zones.
- Of those displaced, women and girls are particularly vulnerable; many lack access to essential care and protection.
3. Why This Is No Longer Just a Crisis, It's a Collapse
- Agriculture, markets and supply chains have crumbled: farms lie abandoned, markets destroyed, transport routes severed.
- Until recently, over 4 million people had fled Sudan into neighbouring countries.
- Disease outbreaks, including cholera and measles, are multiplying in regions with damaged infrastructure and blocked access.
4. Refugees in Uganda: 270,000 Lives in Need
Amidst this crisis, over 270,000 Sudanese refugees have fled to Uganda to escape violence and persecution. These families arrive with almost nothing, many are children, women, and elderly people traumatized by massacres and displacement.
Blackburn UK Trust is committed to supporting these refugees by providing:
- Food packs and bread to prevent malnutrition and starvation.
- Hygiene kits to reduce disease outbreaks.
